The Roadrunners of Rt. 66 Have Arrived
Yesterday, September 4, the first two of six roadrunners of Route 66 wayfinding were installed along Central Ave. The first roadrunners found their homes at Central and Louisiana and at Central and Tulane in Nob Hill. Tramway will be installed next week, and the BioPark sign the week following. San Pasquale and Central in Old Town and Coors and Central will hopefully be completed before the end of September.
With “66” all aglow in neon at the Tulane and Central location — the only sign thus far to have its neon installed — these iconic structures caught much attention their first night out with folks taking pictures and marveling at these new Albuquerque landmarks.
A total of 6 roadrunner signs will be installed along Albuquerque’s Mother Road, at these locations: Tramway and Central, Louisiana and Central, Tulane and Central, BioPark, Old Town, Coors and Central.
We are in charge of building and installing all of these signs with the invaluable help of a subcontractor, though EFG was awarded this contract.
The Tramway location was funded by Councilor Harris. The five other signs were funded by a Federal National Scenic Byways Grant funds and a City Match.
