Pony Jo: He’s Alive!
What began as a simple idea nearly a decade ago, and then a series of sketches earlier this year, has finally come to life in a giant 3-D sculpture right here within the walls of EFG Creative.
Jo, the corporate character behind Pony Jo, a restaurant coming to Albuquerque in July, is the brain child of EFG Creative Director Eric Garcia, who thought him up a good 10 years ago and has been imagining him in different iconic settings ever since.
In this, the first of a series of Americana-themed pieces, Jo appears as King Kong in a 10-foot sculpture. During an approximately 1-month long process, Garcia carved the design by hand from large blocks of styrofoam, then coated it with a hard plastic finish. The result is an interactive art piece that will stand front and center inside Pony Jo.
The next step for this one-of-a-kind piece is airbrush painting and LED lighting to truly bring this classic scene to life. Work on the next piece in this series is already underway. Stay tuned as we reveal what Jo’s up to next.
